TOP CLASS REWARDED FOR ATTENDANCE
July 15, 2008
Turning up to school everyday has paid off for pupils from Year 4 at Walkergate Primary School who won a visit to the Centre for Life as a reward.
At the start of the Summer Term, the Centre for Life teamed up with Newcastle City Council’s Education Welfare Service and Walkergate Primary School to offer the special prize.
Class 4T at Walkergate achieved the highest attendance with an overall attendance level of 96.9% between Monday 21 April and Friday 23 May
Teacher, Mrs Thorpe, said: “The children were excited about the prospect of winning a visit to the Centre for Life and really worked hard on their attendance, which has paid off with this prize. The visit has been excellent and the children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
The pupils spent time in the Centre’s latest exhibition, Fit for Fun, which explores the ingredients of a healthy lifestyle - good nutrition, healthy exercise and lots of fun – through a range of interactive exhibits and activities. After this, they took part in a science workshop looking at habitats and how animals adapt to the world around them.
Pupil, Kyle Faulkner, aged 9, said, “This has been a really good day out, I liked the climbing wall and the skipping machine.”
Fit for Fun will be at the Centre for Life until 2 September 2008.
